Abstract

SUMMARY

The laws of articulation based on the Articulation Quints by Rudolph Hanau have been explained by pointing out that these are purely physical laws which must be observed in the formation of the masticatory surfaces of natural and artificial teeth whenever it is the aim to establish that function which we accept as balanced articulation.

Criticism to the Hanau's works by Trapozzano and Boucher as well as the Triad of Articulation proposed by Trapozzano and the articulation formula by Thielemann have also been given to clarify the particular subject.

A simple gadget which has orginally been made and demonstrated by Earle S. Smith in a clinic before the Academy of Denture Prosthetics, Miami Beach, Florida in April 16, 1954 has been mentioned to ease the understanding.

Another simple device, diagrammatic drawing of a set of scales with two weights occupying each of the scales pans from the same Professor Emeritus has also been explained in order to avoid the mere memorization with the clear conception of why the laws operate.
