ANATOMİK BİR VARYASYON: AKSESUAR MENTAL FORAMEN

Year 2011, Volume: 45 Issue: 2, 65 - 68, 29.11.2011

Abstract

AN ANATOMICAL VARIATION: ACCESSORY MENTAL FORAMEN

Year 2011, Volume: 45 Issue: 2, 65 - 68, 29.11.2011

Abstract

Accessory mental foramen is a rare anatomical variation. Prevalence may alter in different ethnicities, and ranges between
1.4% and 12.5% according to the literature. An accessory mental foramen smaller than the primary mental foramen, localized
mesially and nearer to the tip of the alveolar crest than the primary foramen was seen under the decidious canine’s root in a
6-year-old male’s 3D-CT images. During diagnostic and treatment procedures particularly the maxillofacial surgery practises
such as implant placement, it has a vital importance to localize and protect the mental foramen for pre-intra and postoperative
success in dental clinics.
