Abstract

Yaşlanma dişler, periodontal dokular, ağız mukozası, tükürük bezleri, nöromuskuler sistem,
çene kemikleri ve temporomandibular eklemden oluşan çiğneme sistemi üzerinde fizyolojik etkiler
bırakmaktadır. Ancak bu etkilerin yanısıra yaşlı bireyin ağız hijyeni, dişhekimine başvuru sıklığı,
medikal durumu, beslenme alışkanlıkları ve kullandığı ilaçlar gibi faktörler de bir takım patolojik
değişikliklerin oluşmasına sebep olur. Bu fizyolojik ve patolojik değişikliklerin bilinmesi dişhekiminin
tedavi planlamasında büyük rol oynar.
Bu derlemede yaşlı bireylerde çiğneme sisteminde yer alan dokularda gelişen fizyolojik ve pato¬
lojik değişimler değerlendirilmektedir.
