Clay Minerals Of Neogene Sediments İn Beypazarı (Ankara) District And Their Vertical And Lateral Distribution

Abstract

Mudstones and claystones of the trona-bearing volcano - sedimentary sequence of Neogene age in Beypazarı (Ankara) district were examined by x-ray diffraction technique. In addition to smectite and illite, mudstones and claystones consist mainly of dolomite, calcite, trona, clinoptilolite, natrolite, wairakite, hexahydrite, magnesite, feldspar, rarely chlorite and opal-C.T. All are authigenic in origin. Studies have shown that the fractions finer than 2 µ of trona bearing (lower horizon) mudstones and claystones are composed of 67% well crystallized smectite and 33% illite. Clay fractions in non trona bearing mudstones and claystones (upper horizon) are, constituted of 30% poorly crystallized smectite and 70% illite. Smectites and illites are of trioctaedral and dioctaedral types, respectively. The exchangable interlayer cation of the smectites is Ca++. Depending upon the geochemical conditions of the environment, clay minerals display a vertical graduational zoning as; illite (dominant) + moderately crystallized smectite-well crystallized smectite (dominant) + illite-illite (dominant) + poorly crystallized smectite-illite. Smectite, as well as other authigenic minerals, have been formed by weathering of volcanic glassy material in neutral to alkaline conditions in playa-lake environment.

Beypazarı (Ankara) Yöresi Neojen Tortullarının Kil Mineralleri ve Bunların Dikey ve Yanal Dağılımı

Abstract

Beypazarı (Ankara) yöresindeki trona içeren Neojen yaşlı volkano-sedimenter istifin çamurtaşı ve kiltaşlan x-ışın difraksiyon yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Çamurtaşları ve kiltaşları simektit ve illitin yanı sıra başlıca dolomit, kalsit, trona, klinoptilolit, natrolit, vairakit, haksahidrit, magnezit, feldispat, nadiren klorit ve opal-C.T. gibi otijenetik mineraller içerirler. Yapılan çalışma sonucu trona içeren (alt düzey) çamurtaşı ve kiltaşlarının tane boyu 2 µ' dan küçük fraksiyonlarının %67 iyi kristalli simektit ve %33 illetten oluştuğu saptanmıştır. Trona içermeyen çamurtaşı ve kiltaşlarının tane boyu 2 µ' dan küçük fraksiyonları da %30 kötü kristalli simektit ve %70 illitten oluşur. Simektitler trioktaedral ve illitler de dioktoedral türdendir. Simektitlerin değiştirilebilir tabakalar arası katyonu Ca++ dur. Kil mineralleri ortamın jeokimyasal koşullarına bağlı olarak alttan üste doğru illit (baskın) + orta derecede kristalli simektit-iyi kristalli simektit (baskın) + illit- illit (baskın) + zayıf kristalli simektit- illit şeklinde düşey bir dağılım sunar. Simektit ve diğer otijenik mineraller playa-göl ortamlarında nötral ve alkali koşullarda volkanik malzemenin bozuşması sonucu oluşmuştur.
