A High Resolution Seismic Reflection Study in the Black Sea and Geological Consequences

Abstract

This study was carried out aboard "R/V MTA Sismik 1", off Sinop, to investigate geological and tectonic features. The data obtained have revealed that the basement was a volcanic unit, overlain by the thin recent deposits. The sea floor seems to be affected by some tectonic features. According to all seismic data related to the area, the Tertiary and more recent deposits pinch out the Upper-Cretaceous aged basement, in both north and south side of the area.

Karadenizde Bir Yüksek Ayırımlı Sismik Yansıma Çalışması ve Jeolojik Sonuçları

Abstract

Bu çalışma Sinop açıklarındaki jeolojik ve tektonik çizgilerin araştırılması amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. "MTA Sismik 1" ile elde edilen sismik verilere göre, bölgede volkanik temel genç ve ince çökellerle örtülüdür. Deniz tabanında aktif nitelikte faylara da rastlanmaktadır. Bölge ile ilgili tüm sığ ve derin verilere göre, Tersiyer ve daha genç formasyonlar, bölgenin kuzey ve güneyinden Üst-Kretase yaşlı volkanik temel üzerine incelerek gelmektedir.
