Abstract
Advances in science and technology, as well as developments in the social sense, direct people to adapt to this change and new quests emerge. Most of these pursuits are tried to be eliminated by educational actors, and this task is largely undertaken by education programs. In this context, the education programs in our country were updated in 2018 in accordance with the requirements of the age. With this update, the goal of equipping future generations with certain competencies has come to the fore and studies have been planned for this. In the light of these plans, a number of competencies were included in the curriculum and one of them was "mathematical competence and basic competencies in science / technology". In this context, the current study was carried out to determine the views of graduate students on mathematical competence in all education programs. The data of the study, which was carried out with 14 students attending Gazi University in the fall semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, was obtained through the interview form about mathematical competence created by the researchers, in accordance with the qualitative method. The relevant form was obtained online from the people in the study group and analyzed by content analysis. As a result of the analysis, the findings of the research were collected under five basic dimensions. These are "state of mathematical competence", "mathematical competence in terms of acquisition dimension", "evaluation of mathematical competence", "mathematical competence teachers" and "mathematical competence in terms of vitality". As a result, although the participants see mathematical competence as important, they point out that it is difficult to acquire it for some reasons and they point out the necessity of an educational collective action rather than individual efforts to overcome this. Based on these results it can be said that conducting various studies on mathematical competence with students at different levels and with teachers responsible for gaining this competence will contribute to the acquisition of mathematical competence in individuals.
