SOSYAL SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİRLİĞİN SAĞLANMASINDA EĞİTİMİN YERİ

Abstract

Sürdürülebilirlik, çok boyutlu ve disiplinler arası bir kavram olarak küresel anlamda dikkat çekmektedir. Bu kavram yalnızca ekonomik büyüme ve çevresel koruma ile sınırlı kalmayıp, aynı zamanda sosyal adaletin sağlanması, toplumsal refahın artırılması ve sosyal yapıların sürekliliğinin temin edilmesi gibi unsurları da içermektedir. Bu bağlamda, sürdürülebilirlik hem gelişmiş hem de gelişmekte olan ülkeler açısından çevresel, ekonomik ve sosyal boyutlarıyla ele alınması gereken bütüncül bir yaklaşım gerektirmektedir. Sürdürülebilir kalkınmanın sağlanmasında eğitim, özellikle sosyal sürdürülebilirlik açısından kilit bir rol üstlenmektedir. Bireysel ve toplumsal kalkınmanın gerçekleştirilebilmesi noktasında eğitim; bireylerin temel toplumsal değerleri içselleştirmesi, çevresel farkındalık geliştirmesi ve vatandaşlık bilinci kazanması yönünde yapılandırılmalıdır. Derleme yöntemiyle yürütülen bu çalışmada sürdürülebilirlik ile ilgili ulusal ve uluslararası literatür derinlemesine incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, sürdürülebilirlik ve sürdürülebilir kalkınma kavramlarını incelemek ve bu çerçevede sosyal sürdürülebilirlik ile eğitim arasındaki ilişkiyi analiz etmek olarak belirlenmiştir. Sosyal sürdürülebilirliğin sağlanabilmesi için ülkeler, uzun vadeli kalkınma stratejilerinde eğitimi ve toplumsal yapıyı kapsayan bütüncül bir yeniden yapılanmaya öncelik vermelidir.

THE ROLE OF EDUCATION IN ACHIEVING SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

Abstract

Sustainability has attracted global attention as a multidimensional and interdisciplinary concept. It goes beyond economic growth and environmental protection, encompassing key elements such as the promotion of social justice, the enhancement of societal well-being, and the preservation of social structures. In this context, sustainability requires a holistic approach that addresses its environmental, economic, and social dimensions, both in developed and developing countries. Education plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable development, particularly in terms of social sustainability. For both individual and societal development, education should be designed to help individuals internalize fundamental social values, develop environmental awareness, and gain a strong sense of citizenship. This study, conducted through a traditional literature review method, provides an in-depth examination of national and international literature on sustainability. The main objective is to explore the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development and to analyze the relationship between social sustainability and education within this framework. To ensure social sustainability, countries should prioritize a comprehensive restructuring of their long-term development strategies, with a particular focus on education and the social structure.
