Article Evaluation Process

Evaluation Process

The Journal of Nursing Effect applies a double-blind peer review system, where each submitted manuscript is sent to at least three independent reviewers who are unaware of each other's identity. Throughout the review process, neither the authors nor the reviewers are informed of each other's identities. Identifying information about the author(s) is removed from the manuscript file and included only in the cover page uploaded separately into the system. If any identifying information remains in the full text, it is removed by the editors before the manuscript is forwarded to reviewers.

All submissions to the journal undergo an initial evaluation within a maximum of 15 days, and the authors are informed accordingly. The editor-in-chief and associate editors have the right to reject manuscripts during the submission stage based on their suitability for publication. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening for formatting and grammar are then directed to peer review by the editor.

Case reports are evaluated and processed for publication based on the decision of the relevant section editor. If the manuscript is written in a foreign language, it is first checked for compliance with writing guidelines and then sent to language editors registered on the Dergipark platform for editing before being forwarded for peer review.

Reviewers are given 30 days to complete their evaluations. Authors are allowed to revise their manuscripts in line with reviewer feedback. However, the Dergipark system does not permit authors to make any changes to their submission before the review process is completed. Reviewers can access the submitted file only after they formally agree to review the manuscript.

If a reviewer issues a "major revision" decision, the editors examine the criticisms and suggested revisions in detail for their significance and feasibility, and may choose to reject the manuscript at that stage if deemed necessary. Once all three reviewer reports are received, they are collectively forwarded to the author in compliance with the double-blind review process.

Authors are granted four weeks to address either minor or major revision requests. If the corresponding author fails to implement the requested corrections after being notified three times about technical or formatting issues, the manuscript is withdrawn from the review process, and the author is notified accordingly.

If reviewer assignments have been changed twice for a manuscript accepted for publication, the section editor may take over the review process as the final reviewer without assigning a third new reviewer. The editor checks all revisions submitted by the author. If one reviewer has requested a revision, the revised manuscript is also sent back to the reviewer(s) who initially approved it.

Based on all these considerations, the editor makes the final decision on whether the manuscript will be accepted or rejected and communicates this to the author. All peer review comments—whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected—are shared with the author in accordance with the double-blind system.

To be accepted for publication, a manuscript must receive at least two “accept” decisions from reviewers. If two reviewers reject and one accepts or recommends revision (major or minor), the manuscript is rejected. If one reviewer rejects and the other two recommend revision or acceptance, the manuscript is sent for further review.

Authors are not informed in advance about the specific issue in which their accepted manuscript will be published. Publication order is determined based on the acceptance date. Before final publication, the PDF version of the accepted manuscript is sent to the corresponding author for approval.

The journal prioritizes the inclusion of data collected within the past five years in published manuscripts. Authors are asked to upload their response letters to the system by addressing each reviewer’s comments individually, using a different color for each reviewer and identifying which corrections correspond to which reviewer.
