Parental Burnout, Stress and Relational Resilience Among Parents

Abstract

When a child is born in family, alongside with happiness, a stressful and exhausting periods also begin. Parents’ are usually get tired physically and emotionally throughout the day struggling with daily parenting. Parental burnout is a chronical stress-based problem. Which may lead to suicidal thoughts, child neglection and violance. Accordingly, this study’s aim is to examine parental burnout, parental stress and relationship resilience by socio-demographic variables. Study group of this research consisted of students’ parents with various educational levels (pre-primary-middle-high school) and from private and state schools in Ankara, Totally 510 parents, (%68,6) 350 mothers and (%31,4) 160 fathers. Were participants of the study. In this research, data was collected by “Parental Burnout Assessment”, “Parenting Stress Inventory” , “Relational Resilience Scale” and “Personal Information Form” and data was analysed by SPSS 25.0 (Statistical, Package For Social Sciences). Data Analysed showed that parental burnout, parental stress and relational resilience differ between genders of parents. Parental burnout and parental stress were found higher. But, relational resilience was lower than mothers. While parental burnout and parental stress differs by age of parents relational resilience does not. Sociodemographic variables affecting parental burnout, parental stress and relational resilience was discussed and commented in the ligth of literature.
