Measurement of the Environmental Performance of Selected Countries with Integrated CRITIC - MABAC Methods

Abstract

Environmental problems are on the agenda of all countries since they have reached severe levels and are a global problem. It is seen that countries need to take various measures to solve environmental problems. The aim of this study is to measure the environmental performances of twenty-four OECD and EU member countries that are among the top fifty in the world in gross domestic product with CRITIC and MABAC methods, which are multi-criteria decision-making methods, taking into account the criteria in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) and Environmental Performance Index (EPI). The importance levels of the Climate Change Performance Index and Environmental Performance Index criteria for 2021 were calculated separately with the CRITIC method. Then, the environmental performances of selected countries for 2021 were calculated by applying two methods: integrated CRITIC – MABAC and equally weighted criteria – MABAC. Finally, the environmental performances of the countries were measured by evaluating the criteria in both indices together. The results obtained were compared with the rankings in the index reports and the applicability of the methods used in these indexes was examined.

Seçilmiş Ülkelerin Çevresel Performanslarının Bütünleşik CRITIC - MABAC Yöntemleriyle Ölçülmesi

Abstract

Çevresel problemlerin ciddi seviyelere ulaşması ve küresel bir sorun olması sebebiyle bütün ülkelerin gündeminde yer almaktadır. Ülkelerin çevresel sorunları çözmek için çeşitli önlemler alması gerektiği açıkça görülmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, gayri safi yurt içi hasılada dünya sırlamasında ilk elli içerisinde yer alan OECD ve AB üyesi yirmi dört ülkenin çevresel performanslarını, İklim Değişikliği Performans Endeksi (CCPI) ve Çevresel Performans Endeksi (EPI) içerisinde yer alan kriterleri dikkate alarak, çok kriterli karar verme yöntemlerinden CRITIC ve MABAC yöntemleriyle ölçmektir. İlk olarak 2021 yılı veriler kullanılarak, İklim Değişikliği Performans Endeks ve Çevresel Performans Endeks kriterlerinin önem dereceleri, CRITIC yöntemi ile ayrı ayrı hesaplanmıştır. Ardından seçilmiş ülkelerin çevresel performansları, bütünleşik CRITIC - MABAC ve kriterler eşit ağırlıklı - MABAC olmak üzere iki yöntem uygulanarak sıralanmıştır. Son olarak ise her iki endekste yer alan kriterler birlikte değerlendirilerek ülkelerin çevresel performansları ölçülmüştür. Elde edilen sonuçlar endeks raporlarındaki sıralamayla karşılaştırılmış ve kullanılan yöntemlerin bu endekslerde uygulanabilirliği incelenmiştir.
