The aim of this study is to explore the existence of bubbles in the Turkish bank index and share prices, and identfy the macroeconomic factors that contribute to the formation of such bubbles. The results of the Generalized Supremum Augmented Dickey-Fuller (GSADF) test identified multiple price bubble periods in the bank index and the majority of bank stocks listed on Borsa Istanbul, particularly in the second half of 2022. Notably, price bubble periods were observed in TSKB stocks during 2010 and 2011, in Şekerbank, TSKB, and Vakıfbank stocks in 2013, and in ICBC Turkey shares in 2017 and 2018. One of the most significant findings of the study is the detection of multiple price bubbles in the BIST Bank Index and all its constituent shares since the second half of 2022. Furthermore, the logit regression results indicate that credit risk premiums (CDS), exchange rates, and interest rates are important determinants of bubbles in both the bank index and individual bank stocks.
