Abstract

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) generally encounter problems in motor skills, specifically with regards to postural control. The aim of this review is to examine the evaluation methods and physiotherapy applications implemented in treating postural control disorders in individuals suffering from ASD. Various studies in the literature have indicated the presence of more than one evaluation method- both subjective and objective- used in evaluating the static and dynamic balance of individuals with ASD. The physiotherapy methods studied in this review revealed significant positive effects in postural control and improving balance in individuals with ASD. The results provided by these findings may serve as a guide for not only physiotherapists but for all professionals working in this field. To help individuals with ASD sustain a healthy lifestyle and establish better social interactions, professionals in this field must apply these intervention methods in their daily practices and recognize their advantages.

Abstract

Otizm Spektrum Bozukluğu (OSB) olan bireyler genellikle motor becerilerde, özellikle de postüral kontrolde önemli sorunlar yaşarlar. Bu derlemenin amacı, OSB’li bireylerde postüral kontrol bozukluklarına yönelik değerlendirme ve fizyoterapi uygulamalarının gözden geçirilmesidir. Literatürdeki çalışmalarda OSB’li bireylerin statik ve dinamik dengelerini değerlendirmek için birden fazla sübjektif ve objektif değerlendirme yöntemleri kullanıldığı görülmüştür. Derlemede incelenen fizyoterapi yöntemlerin OSB'li bireylerde postüral kontrolü ve dengeyi geliştirmede önemli olumlu etkileri olduğu görülmüştür. Bu bulguların, başta fizyoterapistler olmak üzere alandaki profesyoneller için yol gösterici olacaktır. OSB'li bireylerin sağlıklı bir yaşam tarzı sürdürmelerine ve daha iyi sosyal etkileşimler kurmalarına yardımcı olmak için alandaki profesyonellerin bu müdahale yöntemlerini günlük uygulamalarında kullanmalı ve faydalarının farkında olmalıdırlar.
