Scope and Language
Bartın University International Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences (JONAS) publishes original scholarly studies prepared in Turkish or English in the fields of agricultural sciences, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, ecology, engineering, environmental sciences, forestry, landscape architecture, mathematics, materials science, planning and design, physics, sustainability, and forest science and technology.
The journal is published electronically twice a year, in July and December. Manuscript submissions are accepted throughout the year. An extended abstract is required for all studies.
Author Guidelines
Studies submitted to the journal must be original, must not have been previously published, and must not be under consideration by another journal. All authors of the study are deemed to have approved the content of the manuscript and its submission to the journal.
Manuscript submissions are accepted throughout the year. Publication planning is carried out according to the date on which the peer-review and editorial evaluation processes are completed. More than one study in which the same author is listed as the first author may not be published in the same issue. Where the same author has more than one accepted study, the order in which the studies will be published is determined through editorial evaluation.
Papers presented at a scientific meeting but not published in full text may be considered for evaluation, provided that the name, location, and date of the meeting are clearly stated.
For theoretical and applied articles submitted to the journal to be considered for evaluation, they must be prepared using the Bartın University International Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Turkish Article Template or the Bartın University International Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences English Article Template. Studies that are not prepared in accordance with the relevant template will not be considered for evaluation and may be returned to the authors.
Excluding the abstract, English abstract, and extended abstract sections, the length of a manuscript is limited to a maximum of 10,000 words or 30 pages. Studies that do not comply with this limit will be returned to the authors with a request for shortening.
Evaluation Process
The manuscript evaluation process takes approximately 8–10 weeks. The evaluation process is conducted on the basis of editorial preliminary review and double-blind peer review.
Studies submitted to the journal are first subjected to a preliminary evaluation by the editorial board in terms of their compliance with the journal’s aims and scope, author guidelines, scientific quality, ethical declarations, similarity rate, and file-upload requirements. Studies that pass the preliminary evaluation are referred by the field editors to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field.
Under the double-blind peer-review system, the identities of the authors are not disclosed to the reviewers, and the identities of the reviewers are not disclosed to the authors. Studies considered suitable for publication on the basis of the reviewer reports may also be examined, where necessary, by the language editor, the ethics and artificial intelligence use editor, and the proofreader.
The editorial board has the authority to make the final evaluation and decision regarding the publication of studies considered suitable for publication on the basis of the reviewer reports.
Copyright and License
For studies accepted for publication, the Copyright and Publication Agreement Form must be signed by all authors and uploaded to the system in PDF format. Studies for which the relevant form has not been uploaded to the system will not be published.
Authors retain the copyright to their studies published in the journal. By submitting their manuscripts to the journal, authors grant Bartın University International Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences the right of first publication and a non-exclusive right to publish, archive, index, and distribute the published version of the work in accordance with open-access principles.
Articles published in the journal are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License — CC BY-NC 4.0. This license permits the use, sharing, and adaptation of the work, provided that appropriate attribution is given to the original author and the source in which the work was first published and that the work is not used for commercial purposes.
Following manuscript submission, no author may be added or removed, and the order of authors may not be changed without the written approval of all authors.
Declarations
The following declarations must be included at the end of the manuscript, before the reference list:
Authors’ contribution statement,
Funding and acknowledgements statement, where applicable,
Conflict of interest statement,
Ethics committee approval statement or a declaration that ethics committee approval was not required,
A statement concerning the scope of artificial intelligence use, where an artificial intelligence tool has been used.
Where the manuscript has been derived from a master’s or doctoral thesis authored or supervised by one of the authors, this must be clearly stated after the abstract section included in the article template.
Example statement:
This article was derived from the master’s/doctoral thesis entitled ………………………………………………….. by ……… .
Fee Policy
No fees are charged to authors or their institutions for manuscripts submitted to or accepted for publication in the journal.
The journal does not charge any submission fee, editorial processing fee, peer-review fee, article processing charge/APC, page charge, colour figure charge, DOI fee, language-editing fee, publication fee, withdrawal fee, or any other fee.
Ethics Committee
For studies requiring ethics committee approval, the ethics committee approval document must be uploaded to the system together with the manuscript file during submission. Where the study does not fall within the scope of research requiring ethics committee approval, a declaration form stating this must be signed, and the relevant explanation must be clearly included in the manuscript.
Research requiring ethics committee approval includes the following:
Research conducted using qualitative or quantitative approaches that require the collection of data from participants through surveys, interviews, focus-group studies, observations, experiments, or interview techniques,
Research involving the use of humans or animals, including their materials or data, for experimental or other scientific purposes,
Clinical research conducted on humans,
Research conducted on animals,
Retrospective studies conducted in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law.
For studies requiring ethics committee approval, the name of the ethics committee, the date of the decision, and the decision number must be clearly stated in the manuscript.
Footnotes and References
All studies must be prepared by reviewing the article template and complying with the formatting requirements specified in the template.
Self-citations should be avoided, and only sources directly related to the theoretical framework, methodology, findings, and discussion of the study should be included. All references must be formatted in accordance with the selected reference-management style, with consistency maintained throughout the manuscript.
The journal adopts APA 7 style for referencing and citation. In-text citations and the reference list must be prepared in accordance with APA 7 guidelines. Basic information concerning APA 7 is available in the relevant guide:

Symbols, Units, and Abbreviations
In general, the journal follows the rules set out in Scientific Style and Format, The CSE Manual for Authors, Editors, and Publishers, Council of Science Editors, Reston, VA, USA, 7th edition. Where symbols such as ×, µ, η, or ν are used, they must be inserted through the Symbols menu in Word. Degree symbols (°) must be inserted through the Symbols menu rather than using the superscript letter “o” or the number “0.” Multiplication symbols (×) must be used instead of the letter “x.” A space must be inserted between numbers and units, for example, 3 kg, and between numbers and mathematical symbols (+, –, ×, =, <, >); however, no space must be inserted between numbers and percentage symbols, for example, 45%. Please use SI units. All abbreviations and acronyms must be defined at first mention. Latin terms such as et al., in vitro, and in situ must not be italicised.
