Case report

Journal of Surgery and Medicine (JOSAM) aims to bring important work using any medical research to a wide international audience and therefore only publish papers with strong and valuable messages that advance our understanding of medicine. The research presented includes case studies. Both experimental and clinical studies are accepted, as are descriptive accounts, although these must offer insights into issues of general interest to medical doctors. The journal publishes in the field of original research, case report, reviews, and letters to the editor are published only in English.

Editorial Board and JOSAM comply with the criteria of the International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), and Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Journal of Surgery and Medicine (JOSAM) is an international peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes manuscripts describing both clinical, experimental, and basic science research. JOSAM publishes original articles on all aspects of health science (including all branches of medicine). Manuscripts must describe original data that has not been published previously nor submitted for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts that adhere to the submission guidelines and are deemed appropriate for the scope of the journal are sent to two reviewers who are specialists in the field. The reviewers’ comments are then considered by the members of the JOSAM Editors and Editorial Board members who discuss the suitability of each submission. The final decision for all submitted manuscripts concluded with the Editors.

Helsinki Declaration and Informed consent

In all studies with the "human" element, the principle of complying with the "Helsinki declaration principles" is sought. In such researches, the authors refer to the "Methods and methods" section of the study in accordance with the "Helsinki Declaration principles", Ethical committee approval, and "informed consent" by those participating in the study. The institution and number/date information for the ethics committee approval should only be given on the title page. If "Animal" substance is used in the study, authors are obliged to indicate that they are working in accordance with the principles of "manuals and methods for the use of laboratory animals" and to conduct research in accordance with ethical rules. Committee of experiments used by animals, the institution, and number/date information concerning the Ethical committee approval of the experimental animals should only be given on the title page. In case-report presentations, it should be noted that "informed consent" has been received independently of the patient's identity. Patients have privacy rights that should not be violated without receiving informed consent. The identification of the information, including the patient's name, initials, or hospital numbers, should not be published in written descriptions, photographs unless necessary for scientific purposes, and the patient (or parent or guardian) written for publication informed consent. The notified consent for this purpose requires that an identifiable patient be presented with the published manuscript. TheAuthors should identify the individuals who help the authors and disclose the resources of this help. Specifying details should be skipped when they are not required. However, it is difficult to obtain complete anonymity, and if you have doubts, informed consent should be taken. For example, the eye area mask in photos of patients is insufficient protection of anonymity. If identifying characteristics are altered to protect anonymity, such as in genetic pedigrees, authors should provide assurance that alterations do not distort scientific meaning and editors should so note.
The Declaration of Helsinki states that "Every clinical trial must be registered in a publicly accessible database before recruitment of the first subject".

The BOAI arises from a meeting convened in Budapest by the Open Society Institute (OSI) on 1st – 2nd December 2001. The purpose of the meeting was to accelerate progress in the international effort to make research articles in all academic fields freely available on the Internet. The participants represented many points of view, many academic disciplines, many nations, and had experience with many of the ongoing initiatives that make up the open access movement. In Budapest, they explored how the separate initiatives could work together to achieve broader, deeper, and faster success. They explored the most effective and affordable strategies for serving the interests of research, researchers, and the institutions and societies that support research. Finally, they explored how OSI and other foundations could use their resources most productively to aid the transition to open access and to make open access publishing economically self-sustaining. The result is the Budapest Open Access Initiative. It is at once a statement of principle, a statement of strategy, and a statement of commitment.

The fact that all manuscripts are reviewed through "Blind Review" has a direct influence on the publication quality. This process ensures confidentiality by objective and independent review. The review process at JOSAM is carried out on the principle of double-blind review. Reviewers do not contact the authors directly, and the reviews and comments are conveyed through the journal management system. In this process, the reviewer views on the evaluation forms and full texts are assigned to the author(s) by the editor. Therefore, the reviewers doing review work for JOSAM are supposed to bear the following ethical responsibilities:

Reviewers must

agree to review only in their subject of expertise.
review in an unbiased and confidential manner.
inform the editor of the journal if they think that they encounter conflict of interests and decline to review the manuscript during the review process.
dispose the manuscripts they have reviewed in accordance with the principle of confidentiality after the review process. Reviewers can use the final versions of the manuscripts they have reviewed only after publication.
review the manuscript objectively and only in terms of its content and ensure that nationality, gender, religious and political beliefs, and economic apprehension do not influence the review.
review the manuscript in a constructive and kind tone, avoid making personal comments including hostility, slander and insult.
review the manuscript they have agreed to review on time and in accordance with the ethical rules stated above.
