Reinterpretation of Ötükän Yıš Expression in Orkhon Inscriptions

Abstract

The name Ötükän is mentioned as the geographical place name in the Orkhon inscriptions and the Terhin (Taryat) and Šinä Usu Inscriptions. Apart from this, it is seen that the same place name is also mentioned in the form of Ötükän Yıš in the Orkhon Inscriptions. Until today, different ideas have been put forward about what the word Ötükän and Yıš mean. In this study, the word Ötükän will be handled and explained in a different way, on the other hand, it will be shown for the first time that the word Yıš has a different meaning over its Chuvash equivalent.
