Abstract

Abstract

Home visits are a healthcare service delivered by trained health professionals who visit individuals in their own homes to address their specific health needs and provide appropriate social support services. It has been proven through evidence-based practices that home visits provide numerous benefits in an international context. They are effective in reducing the burden on hospitals, promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors at all stages of life, increasing the healthy population by taking preventive measures before individuals become ill or fall into high-risk categories, and ensuring proper medication management in case of illness. The importance of home visits, which are considered beneficial in preventing today’s common diseases, should continue to be emphasized. In this context, encouraging evidence-based practices on different issues in home visits in Turkey, considering the population and place of residence, updating programs that include not only risky groups but also the healthy population, providing adequate infrastructure and funding for this, and conducting home visits with scientific cooperation. It is recommended to increase the effectiveness of public health nurses and to develop innovative, solution-generating and effective nursing process management aspects of public health nurses. Making home visits, determining needs and improving emotional health, especially in high-risk groups, will protect the health of women and children, who constitute the majority of the population, and will pave the way for the development of healthy individuals. The development of technology, patient care including telehealth applications and artificial intelligence applications have caused home visits to lose their importance. However, the population is ageing rapidly, home visits are needed, especially in old age. The aim of this study is to highlight the role and implementation possibilities of home visits within public health practices by emphasizing global examples, and to raise awareness on the subject.
