THE USE AND EFFECTS OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES IN THE LOGISTICS ACTIVITIES OF INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISES

Abstract

In today's business world, where global competition is intensifying, the sustainable success of industrial enterprises depends on managing logistics processes in a digitally driven and efficient manner. In this context, information and communication technologies (ICT) play a strategic role in the digital transformation of logistics activities. This study analyzes the areas of ICT usage, its benefits, encountered challenges, and future digitalization trends based on semi-structured interviews conducted with 14 industrial enterprises operating in the province of Bartın. According to findings based on content analysis, businesses predominantly use basic ICT tools such as ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Logo Tiger), barcode readers, handheld terminals, and Excel; however, the adoption of advanced applications remains limited. ICT provides significant advantages such as increasing processing speed, reducing errors, improving data flow, and enhancing responsiveness to customer demands. On the other hand, high investment costs, system complexity, adaptation processes, and lack of skilled workforce are among the barriers that hinder digital transformation. Looking ahead, there is growing interest in mobile solutions, integrated ERP systems, artificial intelligence, and robotic technologies. It is considered that the study will contribute to the understanding of the digitalization process in logistics through original data obtained at the local level and will provide a basis for future research in this field.

ENDÜSTRİYEL İŞLETMELERİN LOJİSTİK FAALİYETLERİNDE BİLGİ VE İLETİŞİM TEKNOLOJİLERİNİN KULLANIMI VE ETKİLERİ

Abstract

Küresel rekabetin yoğunlaştığı günümüz iş dünyasında endüstriyel işletmelerin sürdürülebilir başarı elde edebilmeleri, lojistik süreçleri dijital temelli ve etkin biçimde yönetmelerine bağlıdır. Bu bağlamda bilgi ve iletişim teknolojileri (BİT), lojistik faaliyetlerin dijital dönüşümünde stratejik bir rol üstlenmektedir. Bu çalışma Bartın ilinde faaliyet gösteren 14 endüstriyel işletme ile gerçekleştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış mülakatlara dayanarak BİT kullanım alanlarını, sağladığı faydaları, karşılaşılan zorlukları ve geleceğe yönelik dijitalleşme eğilimlerini analiz etmektedir. İçerik analizine dayalı bulgulara göre işletmeler ağırlıklı olarak ERP sistemleri (örneğin SAP, Logo Tiger), barkod okuyucular, el terminalleri ve Excel gibi temel teknolojileri kullanmakta, ancak ileri düzey uygulamalara geçişte sınırlı kalmaktadır. BİT kullanımının işlem hızını artırma, hata oranını azaltma, veri akışını iyileştirme ve müşteri taleplerine hızlı yanıt sağlama gibi önemli avantajlar sunduğu görülmektedir. Öte yandan yüksek maliyetler, sistem karmaşıklığı, adaptasyon süreci ve nitelikli iş gücü eksikliği gibi engeller dijital dönüşümü zorlaştırmaktadır. Geleceğe yönelik olarak mobil çözümler, entegre ERP sistemleri, yapay zekâ ve robotik uygulamalara yönelik ilgi artmaktadır. Çalışmanın yerel düzeyde elde edilen özgün veriler aracılığıyla lojistikte dijitalleşme sürecinin anlaşılmasına katkı sunacağı ve bu alanda yapılacak ileriki araştırmalar için bir zemin oluşturacağı düşünülmektedir.
