Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to examine the perceptions of university students regarding physical activity and quality of life and the connection between physical activity and quality of life. The data of our study were obtained from 419 students who were studying at Istanbul Rumeli University in the academic year of 2019-2020 between 04 October 2019-08 November 2019The International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form was used to assess students' physical activity levels and the WHOQOL-BREF World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale Short Form was used to assess students' quality of life. All departments had similar demographics. There were no statistically significant differences between the physical activity levels of the students according to their gender and the regions they lived in (p>0.05). When physical activity levels and quality of life were compared, no statistically significant correlation was found between them (p>0.05). When the physical activity and quality of life results of the departments were examined separately, it was observed that the students with the highest total physical activity level were in the First and Emergency Aid Department (3052.51±3077.14). All departments have similar results in the subscales of the quality of life scale, and the students of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department have the highest score with 24.05±4.08 points in the bodily area subscale. It was observed that the students of the Department of Anesthesiology had the highest score with a score of 22.54±3.78 in the mental domain, 11.44±2.88 in the social domain, and 30.40±5.92 in the environmental domain. In conclusion, There were no significant differences between students' quality of life and physical activity levels according to their departments, but there was a strong correlation between quality of life and physical activity levels. Students who were more physically active in their daily lives had higher quality of life scores. We believe that increasing physical activity will be effective in improving the quality of life.
