Foreign body ingestion can cause medical problems in a wide range between simple morbidity and mortality that concern the gastrointestinal system (GIS), bringing considerable financial burden. In this study, we wanted to share our experiences and our approach to patients who presented to the emergency service with complaints of swallowing foreign bodies. The study included patients who were admitted to the emergency service with complaints of foreign body ingestion and received gastroenterology and general surgery consultations between January 2011 and December 2013. 26 Male patients presented with foreign body swallowing complaint between the dates mentioned. Foreign bodies in the gastrointestinal system rarely cause complications and require surgical intervention. The shape, size, and edge structure of foreign bodies determined by radiological methods often provide information about the movement in the passage. We propose that the bodies that do not displace for longer than one week on radiologic follow-up should be assessed surgically by laparoscopy primarily because of the risk of perforation and compression.
