Leisure Behaviorsin Different Cultures: Bingöl Zaza Sample

Abstract

In our research, it is aimed to examine the leisure time behaviours of individuals in Bingöl Zaza sample. Qualitative research method was used to examine the leisure time behaviours of individuals in Bingöl Zaza sample. While the population of the study consisted of Bingöl Zaza culture, the sample consisted of 25 individuals who were randomly selected and participated voluntarily. The research data were collected usinga semi-structured interview form developed for this study. In the analyses, the interview texts were carefully readand the data were conceptualized and themes explaining the data were determined within the framework of logic according to the emerging concepts. After determining the codes and themes, the findings were grouped and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Itwas observed that the major it of the participants worked 8 hours or less compulsorily and slept 7 hours or less. When asked with whom leisure time is spent, the answers were friends, family and alone; when asked where leisure time is spent, the answers were gym, shopping center, home and outdoors; and when asked about participation in activities according to social customs and traditions, the answers were condolences, weddings, festivals, sports activities, invitations and not participating. It was observed that the majority of the participants took part in the activities that they themselves belonged to,had sufficient free time, allocated a budget for the activities, their activities reflected their culture,and eisure time activities createda sense of happiness for them.In this study, itwas determined that there was a standardisation in the leisure time behaviours of ethnic and belief groups as a result of acculturation, but ethnic cultural life was tried to be kept alive with a certain consciousness. In our study, it was determined that individuals participated in more passive recreational activities. Considering the leisure time behaviour, it is observed that there is not much difference between Bingöl Zaza culture and other cultures.
