Analysis of Sports Sciences Students' Coaching Attitudes and Behaviors According to Admission Type: A Comparison of ÖZYES and TYT-AYT

Abstract

This study examined attitudes toward coaching and coaching behaviors of students admitted to Faculties of Sport Sciences through the Special Talent Test (ÖZYES) and those admitted through the centralized examination system based on the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) and Field Proficiency Test (AYT). 282 students studying at Kocaeli University Faculty of Sport Sciences participated in the study. Data were collected using the Attitude Toward Coaching Scale and the Coaching Behavior Assessment Scale. The results showed that admission type did not create a strong difference in coaching attitudes, although students admitted through ÖZYES scored higher in total attitude as well as cognitive and behavioral attitude dimensions. Differences in coaching behaviors were limited to supportive behaviors, favoring ÖZYES students. Female students scored higher than male students in all attitude and coaching behavior. Students with coaching experience demonstrated higher overall and affective attitude scores, while coaching behaviors differed only in supportive behaviors. Positive relationships were found between coaching attitudes and coaching behaviors. Regression analysis indicated that attitudes toward coaching were closely associated with coaching behaviors, whereas the admission method did not show a contribution. The findings suggest that coaching attitudes play a more important role in shaping coaching behaviors than the admission method.
