Effects of Reformer Pilates Exercise on Quality of Life and Health Perception in Sedentary Women

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of Reformer Pilates exercise on quality of life and health perception in sedentary women. The sample consisted of 20 sedentary women aged 18–45 years living in Samsun. Data were collected face-to-face before and after an 8-week Reformer exercise program. Participants underwent anthropometric measure-ments, performance tests, and completed scales assessing health perception, general qual-ity of life, and fatigue. The exercise program was conducted twice a week, with 60-minute sessions over 8 weeks. Following the intervention, significant decreases were observed in body weight, body mass index (BMI), waist and hip circumferences, and balance error scores. In contrast, significant improvements were found in spinal length, flexibility, leg strength, back strength, and right-hand grip strength (p < 0.05; p < 0.001). Although im-provements were noted in motivation, activation, and total fatigue scores, these changes were not statistically significant (p > 0.05), and no differences were found in fatigue and concentration sub dimensions. Similarly, overall quality of life scores did not change sig-nificantly, while a significant improvement was detected in the VAS score (p < 0.05).In conclusion, Reformer Pilates improved physical fitness and some psychological parame-ters but had limited effects on overall quality of life and health perception.
