The reality of the earthquake: The importance of a holistic approach in chronic disease management in children with special needs

Abstract

Children with special needs who struggle with chronic diseases represent a unique group that needs to be handled with care in health services. Not only physical health problems but also psychosocial needs of these children necessitate multidisciplinary and holistic approaches. In the literature, it is emphasized that regular nursing visits, education of families and psychosocial support programs for children significantly improve the health status of this group and increase their compliance with treatment processes.
The recent major earthquake disaster has once again revealed how vulnerable children with special needs are under disaster conditions. In the post-disaster period, it has shown that the integration of nursing practices and social services is a critical necessity to rapidly meet the medical and psychosocial needs of these children. Such holistic interventions reduce the stress levels of families and increase their resilience. Therefore, the development of inclusive health and social support policies for children with special needs should be seen as a fundamental step in improving the quality of life of these children.

Depremin Gösterdiği Gerçek: Özel Gereksinimli Çocuklarda Kronik Hastalık Yönetiminde Bütüncül Yaklaşımın Önemi

Abstract

Kronik hastalıklarla mücadele eden özel gereksinimli çocuklar, sağlık hizmetlerinde dikkatle ele alınması gereken özgün bir grubu temsil etmektedir. Bu çocukların yalnızca fiziksel sağlık sorunları değil, aynı zamanda psikososyal ihtiyaçları da multidisipliner ve bütüncül yaklaşımları zorunlu kılmaktadır. Literatürde, düzenli hemşirelik ziyaretleri, ailelerin eğitimi ve çocuklara yönelik psikososyal destek programlarının bu grubun sağlık durumlarını önemli ölçüde iyileştirdiği ve tedavi süreçlerine uyumlarını artırdığı vurgulanmaktadır.
Son yaşanan büyük deprem felaketi, özel gereksinimli çocukların afet koşullarında ne denli savunmasız bir grup olduğunu bir kez daha ortaya koymuştur. Afet sonrası süreçte bu çocukların tıbbi ve psikososyal ihtiyaçlarını hızla karşılayabilmek, hemşirelik uygulamaları ile sosyal hizmetlerin entegrasyonunun kritik bir gereklilik olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu tür bütüncül müdahaleler, ailelerin stres düzeylerini azaltmakta ve dayanıklılıklarını artırmaktadır. Bu nedenle, özel gereksinimli çocuklara yönelik kapsayıcı sağlık ve sosyal destek politikalarının geliştirilmesi, bu çocukların yaşam kalitelerinin artırılmasında temel bir adım olarak görülmelidir.
