Abstract
Hippobosca longipennis is an obligate blood-feeding ectoparasite of domestic and wild carnivores and is recognized as an important pathogen vector. This case report describes the first detection of Hippobosca longipennis in dogs in Turkey. These ectoparasitic flies were detected during examinations of seven stray dogs brought to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Animal Care Center for rehabilitation. The flies were carefully collected and sent to the laboratory for morphological examination and identified as Hippobosca longipennis. This report presents the first detection of the species in dogs in Turkey and emphasizes the importance of monitoring ectoparasites in stray animals. It also contributes to the geographical distribution of this species and highlights its potential role in the spread of diseases.
