Ulamâ and Contemporary Challenges: Chances and Risks

Abstract

Muslim scholar has a dignity identifying him with the personality of holy Prophets‟ characteristics with a responsibility of embodying what are ideally prescribed in his real life and with the courage to counter the threats he may meet to this cause. His mission is to follow the ways of the prophets especially those whom the Holy Qur‟an mentioned as ulu‟l-azm (those with an utmost determination) and to create effective life models as these created in effective history. The following paper examines identity, personality and mission of a Muslim scholar facing both contemporary challenges like conformism and chances like creating innovative founding principles for a new model of thought to be based on creative elements of the past and promising ones of present day.

ÇAĞDAŞ MEYDAN OKUMALAR KARŞISINDA ULEMA: İMKÂNLAR ve RİSKLER

Abstract

Ulemaya en büyük onuru veren ve büyük bir görev yükleyen ifadelerden biri Resûlullah‟ın “Alimler, nebilerin varisleridir” sözüdür. Alimin varis olduğu peygamberler, tarihin farklı buhran evrelerinde insanlığı ahlaki bunalımdan çıkartmakla birlikte, yarattıkları büyük kırılmalarla da tarihin akıĢını değiĢtirmiĢlerdir. ÇağdaĢ meydan okumalar karĢısında geliĢtirilecek reflekslerin mahiyeti, bu mücadele (cedel/diyalektik ) tarihinden çıkarılabilir. Tarihteki bu kırılmalar Kur‟an‟ın ulu‟lazm/kesin kararlılar dediği beĢ peygamber eliyle gerçekleĢmiĢtir.
