Cypriot Greeks and the Annan Plan

Abstract

In this article, the reasons for rejection of the
Annan Plan by Cypriot Greeks are analyzed. As known, on April 24, 2004,
referendum was done for the Annan Plan separately at the same time in South
Cyprus and North Cyprus and Greek Cypriots voted against the Annan Plan in the
rate of 75, 83%. I hypothesize that nationalist campaign which was done in
South Cyprus, desire for Megali Idea with Enosis and situation in which Greek Cypriots
didn’t want to share economic resources with Turkish Cypriots caused Greek
Cypriots to say no in high rate. Church said that supporters of the Annan Plan
will become responsible in the sense of religion and this address affected
Greek Cypriots in favor of no vote. Furthermore, ownership regime provided by
the Annan Plan was seen by Greek Cypriots as injustice.

Kıbrıslı Rumlar ve Annan Planı

Abstract

Bu makalede Annan
Planı’nın Kıbrıslı Rumlar tarafından reddedilmesinin sebepleri analiz
edilmektedir. Bilindiği gibi 24 Nisan 2004 tarihinde Annan Planı için eş
zamanlı olarak ayrı ayrı hem Güney Kıbrıs’ta hem de Kuzey Kıbrıs’ta referandum
yapılmış ve Kıbrıslı Rumlar referanduma %75,83 oranında hayır oyu vermişlerdir.
Makalenin hipotezine göre, Güney Kıbrıs’ta siyasiler tarafından yapılan ulusalcı
kampanyalar, Megali İdea ile Enosis arzuları ve Kıbrıslı Rumların adanın
ekonomik kaynaklarını Kıbrıslı Türklerle paylaşmak istememesi referanduma
Kıbrıslı Rumların yüksek oranda hayır demesine yol açmıştır. Kilise Annan
Planı’nı destekleyenlerin dinen sorumlu olacağını ifade etmiştir ve bu konuşma
halkı hayır oyu yönünde etkilemiştir.
