Objective: The aim of this study is to measure
the knowledge level of the people about the education and general functioning
of the existing Imam-Hatip schools, to evaluate their thoughts and to identify
the related factors.
Materials and Methods: Volunteers
aged over 13 years participated in the study, and data from different regions
were obtained by face-to-face interview and e-survey methodologies the
metropolitan city. The type of the research was cross-sectional, and it was
completed in six months. Pollsters received training on how to collect data.
Questions in the survey were determined by brainstorming method according to
the information obtained from the sources.
Results: A total of 1137 volunteers
participated in the study and 65.5% were male, more than half were in the age
group of 18-29, more than half were educated with Marmara, Central Anatolia or
Mediterranean culture, and about half of them were university graduates, and 6%
of them were literate. About 80% of the participants have general knowledge
about IHLs, about half of them do not know about the courses taught in IHL, 84%
of them know that they have science courses in these schools. As source of
information about these schools, 29% of them reported media and 51% reported
face to face communication. When the perception levels of the people are
evaluated, 56% of the students stated that they have national and spiritual
values, 68% of them are people who are compatible with the society, 69% of them
depend on traditions, and 36% of them think that they consider IHL's students
as positive in general. In
addition, the relation between the socio-demographic characteristics and the
answers were examined and the results were found that variable.
Conclusion: There are many Imam-Hatip schools in
our country that provide education in today's technology and knowledge level.
In particular, seeing that the students educated in the Imam Hatip schools,
which are included in the successful classification, have remarkable positive
features in all respects, will increase the interest in these schools in the
future. As a result of this study, it is concluded that there is a positive
relationship between the perception of society and the level of knowledge about
IHL. In addition, among women, and people aged 18-29 should be informed more
about IHL. The awareness / recognition rate of the successful IHL schools is
around 30%, despite the fact that it is a research conducted in the region
where they are predominant. For this reason, the educational contents of the
successful Imam-Hatip schools and the introduction of their graduates to a
wider audience will affect the positive perception even more.
