İNGİLTERE’DE ÖĞRETMEN STANDARTLARI VE COĞRAFYA EĞİTİMİ TEACHER STANDARDS AND GEOGRAPHY EDUCATİON İN ENGLAND

Öz

Genç nesillere coğrafya öğretme konusu dünyanın birçok ülkesinde önemli bir mesele olduğu gibi İngiltere’de de önemlidir. Bu çerçevede İngiltere’de eğitim işlerini bir seviyeye taşımak amacıyla Ulusal Müfredat yayınlanmış ve coğrafya dersleri programları da buna göre şekillendirilmiştir. Diğer yönden İngiltere’de öğretmen eğitimi sürekli sorgulanmış ve hatalı bulunan yönler düzeltilmeye çalışılmıştır. İngiltere’de “öğretmenlerde bulunması gereken temel bazı özellikler” belirlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda coğrafya öğretmenlerden mesleki olarak belli özellikleri bulundurması istenir. İngiltere’de çok sayıda üniversitede coğrafya öğretmeni yetiştirme programı vardır. Bu çalışmada İngiltere’deki coğrafya öğretmeni standartları ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada öncelikle kaynak taramasına gidilmiş ve konu üzerinde detaylı veri toplanmıştır. Çalışmada arazi çalışması yapılmış ve İngiltere’deki çeşitli ortaöğretim okulları ve üniversiteler ziyaret edilmiştir. Çalışma neticesinde İngiltere’de coğrafya öğretmeni olabilmek için Nitelikli Öğretmen Statüsü Qualified Teacher Status - QTS almak, ayrıca Teaching Qualification TQ olarak isimlendirilen “öğretmenlik belgesine” sahip olmak veya Eğitimde Lisans Üstü Sertifika Postgraduate Certificate in Education-PGCE belgesi almak gibi bir takım şartların arandığı görülmüştür.

TEACHER STANDARDS AND GEOGRAPHY EDUCATİON İN ENGLAND İNGİLTERE’DE ÖĞRETMEN STANDARTLARI VE COĞRAFYA EĞİTİMİ

Abstract

Teaching geography to younger generations is an important issue in England as it is in many other countries around the world. In this sense, National Curriculum was published in England to take educational affairs to a certain level; and geography courses curricula were shaped according to this program. On the other hand, teacher training was constantly questioned in England to correct the aspects that seem defective. In England, certain basic characteristics that are expected to be possessed by teachers were determined. To this end, geography teachers are requested to possess certain characteristics in professional terms. Through literature review, detailed data were collected initially in the study. Field survey was also conducted in the study, and various secondary schools and universities in England were visited. At the end of the study, it was seen that in order to be a geography teacher in England one has to be granted with Qualified Teacher Status QTS , a “teaching certificate” named Teaching Qualification TQ or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education PGCE .
