The aim of this study is to determine the musical features of Pomak folk songs and
provide them to be documented by writing in notes. It is used “descriptive
notation” (Seeger, 1958) in transcription which is based to Western art music
notation system and makes it easy to show ornamentations. In this study five
Pomak folk songs transcripted because they are indicating different features of the
tune and the text among twenty songs which are recorded in a field study (from
2002 to 2007) was carried out in Çınardibi village of Bayındır County in İzmir
Province and are analysed. In this study, it is revealed that the Pomak folk songs had
characteristic melodic structure, the songs classified as of their melodic structure
and their themes, the relation between the melody and the lyrics researched.
