Women Rights in the USA

Abstract

There have been countless struggles between different nations, races, religious groups, and between people of different income gaps in order to gain the rights necessary to improve and sustain existence throughout history. It is deeply saddening to acknowledge that such struggles were due to gender difference and that sanctions against feminism had been severe. Just like the UK, the USA can be considered as one of the motherlands of the feminist movement. Despite being one of the most important representatives of democracy and with a long history of women rights’ movement, women are still encountering problems regarding their gender. In the first part of this study, the legal and political aspects of feminism within three periods in the USA will be analyzed (reviewed) and in the second part of the study, different problems and conditions of women in different cases in the 21st century will be reviewed.

ABD’de Kadın Haklarının Gelişimi

Abstract

Geçmişten günümüze farklı milletler, ırklar, etnik gruplar, dinsel gruplar, ekonomik sınıflar arasında varlıklarını devam ettirebilmek ve geliştirebilmek adına gerekli olanakları elde etmek için çok sayıda mücadele verilmiştir. Ama bu tarzda bir mücadelenin aynı toplum içerisinde sadece cinsiyet farkından kaynaklanan bir farklılık dolayısıyla yürütülmek zorunda kalınmış olması ve feminizm hareketinin engellenmesi için çok sert yaptırımlar uygulanmış olması üzüntü vericidir. ABD, İngiltere gibi feminizm hareketinin anavatanlarından biri kabul edilebilir. ABD demokrasinin en önemli temsilcilerinden biri olmasına rağmen ve bu ülkede kadın hareketleri uzun zamandır yürütülüyor olsa da günümüzde kadınlar hala cinsiyetlerinden kaynaklanan bazı sorunlara sahiptirler. Bu çalışmanın ilk bölümünde ABD’de feminizm hareketinin 3 dalgası, hukuki ve siyasi boyutlarıyla analiz edilecektir. İkinci bölümde ise 21. yüzyılda ABD’deki kadınların farklı alanlardaki durumları ve sorunları incelenecektir
