Abstract

AMAÇ: Çalışmamızın amacı parotidektomiler sonucunda gelişen Frey sendromu insidansını analiz etmek ve literatür eşliğinde sunmaktır. YÖNTEMLER: 2005-2008 yılları arasında kliniğimizde 46 hastaya parotis kitlesi nedeniyle parotidektomi (total veya yüzeyel) operasyonu uygulandı. Hastalara postoperatif erken ve geç dönemde (erken dönem 3-6. ay, geç dönem 6-18. ay) Frey sendromuyla ilişkili şikayeti olup olmadığı soruldu ve tüm hastalara Minor testi yapıldı.BULGULAR: Parotiste kitle nedeniyle parotidektomi yapılan 46 hastanın 30’u bayan 16’sı erkekti. Hastaların ortalama yaşı 50,8 olarak bulundu. Hastaların 4(% 8,69)’ ünde Frey sendromuna ait semptomlar mevcuttu. Minor testinde bu 4 hastaya ilaveten asemptomatik olan 2 hastada, toplamda 6 (%13) hastada test pozitif olarak değerlendirildi. SONUÇ: Frey sendromunda Minor’un iyot-nişasta testi ve hastanın kliniği tanı koymada en önemli testtir. Parotidektomi sonrası Frey sendromu insidansı literatürde oldukça değişkenlik göstermektedir. Bizim çalışmamızda semptomatik olguların oranını %8,69 olarak bulunmuştur.

Incidence of Frey's Syndrome After Parotidectomy

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of Frey’s syndrome in patientswho underwent parotidectomy. The results were discussed and the literature was reviewed.METHODS: From 2005 to 2008, 46 patients underwent superficial or total parotidectomy for parotidmass in the Ear Nose Throat Clinic. All patients were given a questionnaire to evaluate clinical signs of Frey's syndrome during post-operative follow-up period ( 3-18 months). Then all patients were classified as positive or negative using Minor starch-iodine test.RESULTS: 46 patients including 16 males and 30 females underwent parotidectomy for parotid mass.The mean age of the patients was 50,8 years. Of these 46 patients, 4 (8,69%) were considered to be symptomatic according to the Minor test. Additional 2 asymptomatic patients were also evaluated as test-positive.CONCLUSION: Clinical evaluation of patients and Minor test are main methods to diagnose the Frey’ssyndrome. The incidence of Frey's syndrome in the literature has been variously described. In our study, rate of symptomatic cases was found to be 8,69%.
