Abstract

Summary: A Follow-up Study on Attempted Suicides in Ankara: The Follow-up Study Results of the WHO/Europe Multicentre Study on Parasuicide. This study was conducted as a part of an international colloborative study on attempted suicide initiated by Europe Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1988. A follow-up interview study was performed and the rate and associated features of repeated suicide attempts were examined in a sample group of patients attempted suicide previously. The results shovved that attempted suicide was more commorı among women and younger age groups, parasuicidal behaviours were mostly aimed at seeking help from other people or shovving desperations, repeaters have experienced much more suicidal ideatiort than nonrepeaters in the follow-up period, previous parasuicidal behaviours and difficult or unpleasant life events increased the risk of repetition of parasuicidal acts. Most of the people who attempted suicide neither had enough psychiatric therapy nor were referred to or took the advantages of mental health services follovving their attempts. Although suicidal thoughts or behaviours of the attempters were not approved by their relatives and friends they generally were not totally abandoned or left alone.

ANKARA'DA İNTİHAR GİRİŞİMLERİ ÜZERİNE BİR İZLEME ÇALIŞMASI: Dünya Sağlık Örgütü-Avrupa Çok Merkezli İntihar Davranışı İzlem Çalışması Sonuçları

Öz

Özet: Bu çalışma Dünya Sağlık Örgütü Avrupa bölgesel ofisi tarafından 1988 yılında başlatılan, Avrupa'da intihar girişimlerini araştırmayı amaçlayan çok merkezli çalışmanın bir parçası olarak yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada intihar girişiminde bulunmuş bir hasta grubu ile izlem görüşmesi yapılarak, tekrarlayan intihar girişimi hızı ve bu girişimler ile ilişkili olabilecek faktörler incelenmiştir. Sonuçlar intihar girişimlerinin genç erişkin yaş gruplarında ve kadınlar arasında daha yaygın olduğunu, intihar girişimlerinin çoğunlukla başkalarından yardım aramak ve umutsuzluğu göstermek niyeti taşıdığını, tekrarlayıcıların daha sık intihar düşüncesi yaşadığını, önceden intihar davranışı bulunmasının ve zorlu yaşam olaylarının tekrar intihar girişiminde bulunma riskini artırdığını göstermektedir. İntihar girişiminde bulunanların çoğunluğu bu girişimlerden sonra yeterli psikiyatrik tedavi alamamakta ve bu davranışları aileleri ve arkadaşları tarafından onaylanmamakla birlikte, genellikle de tamamen yalnız bırakılmamaktadırlar.
