Integration of Mental Health Services Into Primary Health Çare: Mental Health Training Program At Primary Health Çare
Abstract
Although the prevalence rate of mental
health disorders is high in Turkey, people with
mental health disorders rarely seek treatment;
application to health institutions rate is low.
Small number of those who seek treatment
receives correct diagnosis and sufficient treatment.
One of the reasons is that practitioner physicians vvorking in the Primary Health Çare
Services are not trained properly on the importance
of mental health disorders, recognition
and treatment of them. Recognition and treatment
of mental disorders at primary health çare
level would prevent these disorders from turning
into chronic illnesses and creating future individual,
social and economical problems. Within this
respect, "Mental Health Training Program for
the Primary Health Çare" has been prepared to
improve knovvledge, attitude and behaviors of
practitioner physicians working at the primary
health çare level on mental health. Under the
Program it is planned to provide physicians from
ali över the country with training by psychiatry
specialist who had received "trainers' training"
beforehand. Via pre- and post-tests participants'
knovvledge shall be tested and effectiveness of
the training program, numbers shovving
progress in recognition, treatment and referral
after the program, and impact of the program on
service provision shall be evaluated.
