Abstract
“Palyatif” sözcüğü, kısa bir tanım ile “rahatlatmak, dindirmek” anlamına gelmektedir.
Latince “Palliate”den köken alan “Palyatif” sözcüğü,aynı zamanda “pelerin ile
örtülü”olarak da tanımlanmaktadır.Yapılan tanımlamalara bakıldığında; palyatif bakım,
Hospis bakımı, terminal dönem hasta bakımı, yaşam sonu bakım gibi kavramlarınbirbirinin
yerine kullanıldığı görülür. Palyatif bakım gereksinimi, dünya nüfusunun giderek
yaşlanması, başta kanser olmak üzere, özellikle kardiyovasküler ve respiratuar sistemi
etkileyen, diğer bulaşıcı olmayan kronik hastalıkların da çoğalmasıyla, küresel olarak
artmıştır. Dünya Sağlık Örgütü ve Dünya Hospis Palyatif Bakım Birliği, ortaklaşa
oluşturduğu Küresel Palyatif Bakım Atlası’nda bu konuyu vurgulamıştır.Bu derleme, palyatif
bakımın çeşitli tanım ve özelliklerini gözden geçirmek, palyatif bakım kavramının
farklı boyutlarını ele almak ve palyatif bakım felsefesini, aile hekimliği disipliniyle örtüşen
yönlerini vurgulayarak açıklamak amacıyla hazırlanmıştır.
