Diagnosis And Treatment Of Allergic Rhinitis In Children: Practical Approach

Year 2017, Volume: 9 Issue: 6, 28 - 40, 17.11.2017

Abstract

Abstract

Allergic rhinitis is an allergic disease, mediated by type I allergic mechanisms. It is an inflammation of the nasal membranes. Characteristic clinical findings are sneezing, nasal congestion, nasal itching and rhinorrhea, in any combination. Laboratory tests used in the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis include allergy skin tests, specific IgE measurements, and imaging studies. The management of allergic rhinitis consists of the environmental control, pharmacologic management and immunotherapy. This paper reviews the diagnosis and treatment strategies of allergic rhinitis in the light of recent studies and guidelines.
