Policystic Kidney Disease and Liver Cyst In A Cat

Year 2025, Volume: 18 Issue: 4, 549 - 553, 24.12.2025

Abstract

This case involved a five-year-old, female British Shorthair cat presented to the Animal Hospital of Afyon Kocatepe University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, with complaints of anorexia, lethargy, and abdominal distension. On physical examination, abdominal pain was detected, while body temperature and pulse rate were within physiological limits. Ultrasonographic evaluation revealed multiple cysts in both kidneys and a single cyst in the liver parenchyma containing approximately 20 ml of fluid. Considering the size of the cyst, percutaneous aspiration was performed, and the lesion was evacuated. Microbiological examination of the aspirate revealed Gram-positive cocci. This case report aims to evaluate the clinical, hematological, radiographic, and ultrasonographic findings, as well as the interventional treatment applied, in a British Shorthair cat diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease accompanied by a hepatic cyst

Bir Kedide Polikistik Böbrek Hastalığı ve Karaciğer Kisti

Year 2025, Volume: 18 Issue: 4, 549 - 553, 24.12.2025

Abstract

Bu olgunun materyalini, anoreksi, letarji ve abdominal gerginlik şikâyetiyle Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Hayvan Hastanesine getirilen beş yaşlı, dişi, British Shorthair ırkı bir kedi oluşturdu. Fiziksel muayenede abdomende ağrı saptandı, vücut ısısı ve nabız sayısı fizyolojik sınırlarda ölçüldü. Yapılan ultrasonografik muayenede iki böbrekte çok sayıda kistle beraber karaciğer parankiminde içi yaklaşık 20 ml sıvı dolu bir adet kist saptandı. Kistin büyüklüğü göz önünde bulundurularak yapılan perkutan aspirasyon ile lezyon boşaltıldı. Aspiratın mikrobiyolojik incelemesinde Gram (+) kok saptandı.. Bu olgu sunumunda, British Shorthair ırkı bir kedide polikistik böbrek hastalığı ile birlikte görülen hepatik kistin klinik, hematolojik, radyografik ve ultrasonografik bulgularının yanı sıra uygulanan girişimsel sağaltımın değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
