Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the stroke awareness among university students.
Methods: The study included 230 university students with a mean age of 20.76 ± 3.12 years. The students' awareness of strokes was assessed using a closed-ended, 4-question form. This form included general questions about stroke, stroke risk factors, symptoms and treatment methods. The students were given a training session on stroke awareness.
Results: Of the students participating in the study, 50% were in midwifery, 25.2% in health management and 24.8% in social work. The average response rate to general questions about stroke was 60.72%. The most commonly recognised risk factor was high blood pressure (81%). The most commonly recognised symptoms of stroke were sensory impairment, weakness and facial misalignment (93%). The most commonly recognised stroke treatments were physiotherapy and rehabilitation (88%).
Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was determined that stroke awareness levels were moderate and that participants knew only a few symptoms and risk factors better. We believe that stroke awareness training for the community can help improve the management of acute stroke.

Üniversite Öğrencilerinin İnme Farkındalık Düzeylerinin Araştırılması

Year 2025, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 6 - 12, 24.09.2025
