Garcinia atroviridis – A review on phytochemicals and pharmacological properties

Abstract

Garcinia atroviridis or commonly named as ‘Asam Gelugur’ among locals is extensively used as flavouring agent to provide sour sensation. Apart from flavouring agent, G. atroviridisis also used in many ways to promote health traditionally. Lab-based investigations of the plant reported many interesting potential of anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-obesity and lipid metabolism, cytotoxicity, anti-inflammatory, anti-malarial and anti-nicotine stress activities of G. atroviridis. This article discusses the G. atroviridis plant in aspect of its chemical constituents and bioactivities; in vitro and in vivo as well the clinical test made on this plant despite the limited data available. It is also an effort to update G. atroviridis data on its phytochemical and pharmacological data of the plant in the recent 15 years.

Garcinia atroviridis’in fitokimyasal ve farmakolojik özellikleri

Abstract

Garcinia atroviridis ya da yerel
adıyla ‘Asam Gelugur’ ekşi  tadı
nedeniyle lezzet verici olarak kullanılmaktadır. Bu  özelliğinin yanında G.atroviridis, geleneksel
tedavide de  insan sağlığına olumlu
etkileri nedeniyle kullanılmaktadır.  Yapılan
araştırmalarda, bitkinin; antioksidan, antimikrobiyel,  antifungal, anti-obezite ve lipid
metabolizması düzenleyici,  antienflamatuvar,
antimalariyal, nikotin stresini ortadan  kaldırıcı
ve sitotoksik özellikleri çalışılmıştır. Bu makale  kapsamında G.atroviridis’in içerdiği kimyasal
bileşenler ve  biyolojik özellikleri
incelenmiş, in vitro ve in vivo çalışmalara 
ek olarak sınırlı sayıdaki klinik çalışma hakkında da bilgi  verilmiştir. Bu çalışmada, son 15 yılda
G.atroviridis’in  fitokimyasal ve
farmakolojik özellikleri ile ilgili yapılan 
araştırmaların derlenmesi ile G.atroviridis hakkında güncel bir  kaynak oluşturulması amaçlanmıştır.
