INVESTIGATION THE EFFECT OF QUEBRACHO ON ELECTROCHEMICAL BEHAVIOUR OF PYRITE BY USING CYCLIC VOLTAMMETRY (CV) AND ON THE FLOTATION OF PYRITE

Abstract

This study, it was aimed to investigate the effects organic depressant quebracho on the interaction of these with pyrite from Artvin-Murgul ore deposit by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and on the flotation of pyrite in collectorless medium. Firstly electrochemical behaviour of pyrite was studied under different conditions and redox reactions were estimated using cyclic voltammetry. Then flotation experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of redox compounds formed on pyrite. Recoveries were very low under reducing conditions while they significantly increased above 200 mV potential. The experiments carried out at medium and alkaline conditions indicated that the highest flotation recoveries were obtained at pH 6.97 and at medium and high potentials.elemental sulphur resulting from pyrite oxidation and lower recoveries at reducing potentials were the reduction of S0 to hydrophilic compounds. The studies carried out by using organic reagent quebracho proposed that these reagent reduced the recovery considerably in the absence of DTPI as a result of physical and/or chemical adsorption rather then electrochemical mechanisms
