Neo-liberal economy policies have discovered flexible working styles in order to find solutions to the obstructions of
capitalist system. Moreover, costs caused by crisis leant against labour within the framework of these policies and view
points. The transformation process in labour market has deepened segregation based on gender and it leads to more
stratification of labour and the problems experienced by women labour. In this process, the capital began to use women
labour that is less disorganized, vulnerable, cheap, obedient, and unsecured through division of labour based on social
gender as a substitute labour force when compared to men labour. In short, as a result of the impositions by the capitalist
system and sexist social roles generated by the patriarchal system, women are exposed to the negative effects of flexible
working styles more than men.
The organizational power and the power of union activities of the labour are important in the historical struggle of labour
with the capital, identification of the wages, and protection of rights and freedoms. The stronger organizational action and
unionization trends, one of the strongest tools in the fight against labour exploitation are, the easier this fight will become.
This research study which reveals the unionization trends of the women working in banking sector in Istanbul tries to look
at one of the sectors where the fight with the capital occurs mostly from the perspective of women labour. Women labour,
one of the labour types which is vulnerable regarding employment will get stronger as they are organized and they will be
exposed to less exploitations.
