Smart Phone Based Virtual Reality Application in Vocational Education

Abstract

One of the most important factors affecting the productivity of education is practical education. Practical education is very important especially for the development of students' professional skills in vocational schools. Vocational schools have several different departments. Each department carries out its educational activities based on relevant practical skills. Especially in the technical departments, providing the course materials which meet the requirements of practical education is forcing the financial capacities of the relevant departments. To eliminate this difficulty, virtual reality comes up as an alternative to traditional course materials. Virtual reality is a three-dimensional simulation model which makes the students feels like they are in a real environment. In this study, a system was developed to enable the students to benefit from online simulations relevant with their practical education. Projecting the virtual reality environment, smartphones and virtual reality glasses for smart phones were used which are today quite widespread. The student can run the online simulation by smart phone and with this application; the student gains the skills for professional development in a virtual reality environment.
