Anesthesia Management in Surgery of Pediatric Patient Diagnosed with Pulmonary Hydatid Cyst

Abstract

Hydatid cyst is a zoonotic disease caused by the tapeworm Echinococcus. Patients may be asymptomatic or have symptoms due to cyst rupture or compression of surrounding tissues. The treatment of pulmonary hydatid cysts is surgical. With the rupture of the cyst during the operation, anaphylactic shock and even death can be seen. In case of sudden onset of tachycardia and decrease in mean arterial pressure during hydatid cyst operation, the possibility of anaphylaxis should be kept in mind after excluding other possibilities. Anesthetic management is very important in these cases because of the possibility of rupture of the cyst during surgery, causing transbronchial spread of the cyst contents and anaphylaxis.
