Purpose: The social andhealth status of study group was compared withthe nationalhealth status. Materials and Methods: We performed health screening on fifty students with mild mental retardation, aged between7-20 years, on October, 3,2002. Results: Underweight children were more in small age group (<14 years), whereas obesity was remarkable among adolescents. The body mass index was above 85 percentile in 47% and above 95 percentile in 15% of children at and above 14 years of age. Personal hygiene was bad in 20% and the ratio of dental carries was about 80 % similarto national ratio. Conclusion: Although our study group was better than general population with respect to vaccination, presence of anemia, rickets, hypertension or cardiac murmur; they still need a professional support for nutritional health care, dental and body hygiene.
