Abstract

Abstract
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the rectum and colon. The ethiopathogenesis of ulcerative colitis has not yet been definitely identified. Ulcerative colitis may be localized in the rectum, left colon or the entire colon. Approximately 40-50% of the patients have disease limited to the rectum or rectosigmoid area whereas 30-40% have the disease involving the proximal part of the sigmoid colon. Herein we present a case involving the shortest segment in the literature in which the disease was limited to 5 cm to the proximal of the anal canal.
