A fourty hour-old neonate was referred to our hospital with the diagnosis of meconium aspiration syndrome,jaundice and congenital heart disease. Microcephaly, microphtalmia, petechiae, hepatosplenomegaly, cataract,ventricular septal defect, pulmonary stenosis, thrombocytopenia and direct hyperbilirubinemia were found. Withthese findings and a positive serum antirubella IgM serology, congenital rubella syndrome was diagnosed. Thiscase is reported to emphasize the importance of rubella immunization for girls before they reach childbearing age
