Abstract
Although Islamophobia, which is a relatively new concept that is frequently used today, corresponds to fear in terms of meaning, this concept basically expresses the antipathy/hatred of Islam that poses a threat to the West. There are many reasons for Islamophobia. These include theological, cultural, economic, political, as well as orientalism and terror, which is directly related to Muslims today. This study is based on Western Europe and the French, German and British press with the highest Muslim population were selected. Two newspapers were chosen from the press of these countries, representing the right and left views, and the comparative analysis of how Islamophobia was constructed in the news about Islam and Muslims. The selected news was analyzed according to van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis for news texts. As a result, if Muslims are the subject of any event or decision, they are either directly represented as negative or indirectly represented by negative arguments. However, if Muslims are part of an event, that is, in a passive position, they are often either sacrificed to produce dramatic discourse or are minimized or ignored.
