Abstract
Turkish Cinema (Yeşilçam Cinema) produced many movies that have violent scenes to attract audiences during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Some of these movies were Saint Movies, which are about religious persons’ lives such as prophets, the companion of Prophet Muhammad, and Muslim saints. In this research, Saint Movies’ violent scenes were evaluated according to religious and values education. There were 25 Saint Movies between 1960-1975. Five movies were not available for viewing and 20 movies were evaluated. Grounded Theory Method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in this research. The data for the research was collected through the document review method. Findings show violence in Saint Movies depends on the protagonists’ life, character, sex, movies’ plot, how much the story was based on fiction or reality, and the director or scriptwriter’s choice. Moreover, in some movies, the main characters commit violent acts and use violence as a means to solve problems.
