ANALYSIS OF PUBLICATION RATES OF CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS: A STUDY IN THE FIELD OF HISTOLOGY AND EMBRYOLOGY

Abstract

I: In this study, the publication rates, publication periods and journal indexes of the proceedings presented at national/international Histology and Embryology Congresses in 2018 and 2022 were analyzed and a total of 322 presentations were examined. Data were collected using electronic booklets on the official website of THED and databases from PubMed, Google Scholar and Ulakbim. A significant difference was observed in oral presentations between the two congresses, while poster presentations decreased significantly in 2022. While the publication rate of original research articles was high in 2018, it decreased significantly in 2022. In terms of publication time, presentations were published in an average of 28 months in 2018 and about 20 months in 2022. Analysis of journal indexes showed that many presentations from the 2018 congress were published in SCI-indexed journals, but this rate decreased significantly in 2022, and no TR-indexed publications were observed in 2022. Furthermore, the quartile distribution in SCI journals decreased in the Q2 and increased in the Q4. These results suggest that conference proceedings are approaching interdisciplinary averages but lagging behind international publication standards. Future research should investigate the reasons for unpublished presentations and explore the impact of multidisciplinary collaborations.
