Abstract

Abstract Methods for Measurement of Nitric Oxide Nitric oxide has significant tasks in most systems, and also is associated with many diseases. Therefore, its identification and quantification are important. Measurement methods for nitric oxide differ based on the type of the assessed diseases and the samples. Nitric oxide measurement is difficult because of its dramaticaly short half-life, formation in trace amounts under in vivo conditions, and subsequent rapid reaction with molecular oxygen. Thus, various methods have been used to obtain reliable results although there isn\'t any reported standard method. Even though, nitric oxide can be measured directly using electrochemical and chemiluminescent methods, the measurement of the amount of nitrite and nitrate, end products of nitric oxide metabolism, have been used more frequently as fast and simple methods. Therefore, in this article, it was aimed to compare the methods used for determination of nitric oxide levels.

Abstract

Türkçe Özet: Nitrik oksit, birçok sistemde önemli görevlere sahip ve bununla birlikte birçok hastalıkla ilişkilidir. Bu nedenle tanımlanması ve miktar tayini önemlidir. Nitrik oksit ölçüm yöntemleri, değerlendirilen hastalıklar ve örnek çeşitlerine göre farklılık gösterir. Nitrik oksitin yarılanma ömrünün çok kısa olması, in vivo olarak düşük miktarlarda oluşması ve oluştuktan sonra hızla moleküler oksijen ile etkileşerek reaksiyona girmesi ölçümünü güçleştirmektedir. Bu yüzden nitrik oksit ölçümünde standart bir yöntem olmamakla birlikte çalışma konusuna göre güvenilir sonuçlar elde etmek için çeşitli yöntemler kullanılmaktadır. Nitrik oksit, elektrokimyasal ve kemilüminesans gibi yöntemler ile direk ölçülebilse de, nitrik oksit metabolizmasının son ürünleri olan nitrit ve nitrat miktarlarının ölçülmesi hızlı ve basit bir yöntem olarak daha sık kullanılmaktadır. Bu nedenle bu derlemede nitrik oksit düzeyinin belirlenmesinde kullanılan yöntemlerin karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır.

MEU Journal of Health Sciences Assoc was began to the publishing process in 2008 under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Gönül Aslan, Editor-in-Chief, and affiliated to Mersin University Institute of Health Sciences. In March 2015, Prof. Dr. Caferi Tayyar Şaşmaz undertook the Editor-in Chief position and since then he has been in charge.

 

Publishing in three issues per year (April - August - December), it is a multisectoral refereed scientific journal. In addition to research articles, scientific articles such as reviews, case reports and letters to the editor are published in the journal. Our journal, which has been published via e-mail since its inception, has been published both online and in print. Following the Participation Agreement signed with TÜBİTAK-ULAKBİM Dergi Park in April 2015, it has started to accept and evaluate online publications.

Mersin University Journal of Health Sciences have been indexed by Turkey Citation Index since November 16, 2011.

Mersin University Journal of Health Sciences have been indexed by ULAKBIM Medical Database from the first issue of 2016.
