Aim & Scope

The integration of thousands of years of philosophical knowledge and scientific knowledge, which is constantly evolving and taking on a new format, has become a necessity for us to understand the nature of human beings and the universe in a holistic way in the age we live in. The phenomena at the center of ancient philosophical knowledge, such as the human being and the mind, consciousness, intelligence and awareness that constitute the human being, continue to play a critical role today as they did in the past. However, the concepts corresponding to these phenomena are used with different meanings in different fields of discussion today, and this prevents the formation of a common mental paradigm. This reveals the necessity of regulating the current conceptual confusion and achieving a consensus of meaning.

It has become a necessity to establish a consensus between the concepts produced in the fields of artificial intelligence and philosophy of mind in English and the concepts produced in the Turkish literature. Considering the fact that these two fields are newly recognized fields in Turkey and that the amount of thought and knowledge produced in these fields, especially in English, is large, it is obvious that conceptual bridges need to be built between the thought and knowledge produced in both languages. It is obvious that the same epistemic transitivity should also be established between Turkish and other foreign languages.

Today, artificial intelligence and cognitive sciences and the disciplines such as neuroscience, psychology, anthropology, computer sciences and linguistics, which form the basis of these sciences, need a theoretical infrastructure to ground their practical work. In other words, without a theoretical framework, for example, artificial intelligence studies can neither progress efficiently nor succeed. It is obvious that this theoretical infrastructure can only be built with philosophical concepts and theories within a philosophical paradigm. MetaZihin considers it among its primary goals to contribute to the presentation of this theoretical infrastructure and to establish a transitive and interactive relationship between philosophy and these disciplines in a metaphysical and epistemic sense.

The solution of many thorny problems in different fields of philosophy or the generation of different approaches to these problems requires a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of phenomena such as mind, consciousness and awareness at certain critical points. Considering that human existence is at the root of many issues and problems addressed in philosophy, elements such as mind, consciousness, awareness and intelligence shape the central problems of philosophy as both the most fundamental and the most difficult to solve components of human existence. On the other hand, today artificial intelligence is seen as both a consequence and a threat to the privileged and superior position of human beings in the universe; with this motivation, technical and theoretical studies on artificial intelligence are increasing, and these studies have serious consequences that lead to dilemmas not only in the field of philosophy but also in fields such as ethics, politics, law, economics, sociology and psychology. MetaZihin sees among its main goals to be an important platform where all these reflections of artificial intelligence will be discussed.

Today, while artificial intelligence and philosophy of mind research is gaining importance on a global scale, it is obvious that research in this field is currently insufficient and far behind the desired level in Turkey, which wants and strongly needs to improve itself in every field. MetaZihin aims to support the formation of this theoretical ground that Turkey needs, to make the problematics of this field known and discussed in Turkey, and to bring new, original and qualified studies to the relevant international literature. Considering the increase in the number of researchers, academics and graduate students interested in the subject in recent years, the aim of providing a literature and resource for those interested in the field and creating a platform where the works produced can be shared are among the central missions of this journal.

In this respect, MetaZihin journal aims to bring together studies on artificial intelligence and philosophy of mind in Turkey and internationally; it aims to bring together scientific and philosophical perspectives on studies in the field of artificial intelligence and philosophy of mind in the same pot and thus aims to make a qualified contribution to both fields.
